Our main office is located at 3326 Belmont Street in Bellaire, OH and we also operate a satellite office at 114 S. Chestnut St., Barnesville, OH.
The office staff of the Belmont County Veterans Service Office is here to assist veterans and widows of veterans. Here is just a little of what we do.
VA Claims - The Belmont County Veterans Service Office can help fill out the proper paperwork needed to receive your benefits including enrollment in VA Health Care, Disability Benefits Service Connected Compensation Claims, Non-Service Connected Compensation Claims, Dependents and Survivors Benefits, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation Death Pension, Education and Training, Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance, Home Loan Guarantee.
Financial Assistance - BCVSO can provide financial assistance to eligible veterans and their dependents, who are residents of Belmont County, have been living here at least 90 days, and were discharged from active duty under honorable conditions. The veteran must have a copy of his/her DD214 or equivalent to determine eligibility. The following is a list of what we need to provide financial assistance: DD214, a copy of all utility/medical bills, three rent/mortgage receipts, proof of household income (at least three pay stubs or VA/Social Security award letter). If you are requesting payment of a utility bill we must have the original bill, name, date of birth, and social security number of all dependents or people living in your household. The income thresholds for a single veteran or surviving spouse is $1,428.29 a month; $1,870.48 for a veteran or surviving spouse with one dependent. For each additional dependent, add $243.96 to the income limit.
Transportation – BCVSO runs two vans to Pittsburgh VAMC daily. Transportation is by appointment only and is for Belmont County veterans only. No guests are permitted on the vans. Pick up points for transportation are: Bellaire – Kroger Parking Lot at 5:30 a.m.. St. Clairsville-Riesbecks Parking Lot, 6 a.m. and Bridgeport-Riesbecks Parking Lot at 6:15 a.m.The second van uses the same pick up locations. The times are Bellaire – 8:30 a.m.; St. Clairsville – 9 a.m. and Bridgeport – 9:15 a.m.
A veteran is permitted to bring a chaperone on the second, regular van, but only if required by the VA and with approval of the veterans service office. We must receive a doctor’s note with a reason explaining why the veteran needs to have a chaperone. Those having a procedure at VA medical facilities in Pittsburgh that requires a chaperone must have the procedure scheduled for after 10:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, if they want to use Belmont County Veterans Service Office transportation. If the procedure cannot be schedule during this time, then the veteran will have to make other arraignments for transportation.
The Belmont County Veterans Office will provide a free flag case and flag holder to the families of deceased Belmont County Veterans. We will also provide them to the families of Belmont County veterans buried in other cemetery not located in Belmont County.

• The Belmont County Veterans Service Commission is now issuing veterans identification cards to veterans living in Belmont County who want to have an alternate form of proof of service.To apply, Belmont County veterans stop in Belmont County Veterans Service Office at 3326 Belmont St., Bellaire on Tuesdays between 9 and 11 a.m. or Thursdays between 1 and 3 p.m. to get the ID card. The veteran must be honorably discharged and have his or her DD214 to apply. If the veteran does not have a DD214, the card will not be issued, but the BSVCO can help with obtaining a copy from the National Archives in St. Louis.
